The School of Italian Language and Culture (Scuola di Lingua e Cultura Italiana) in South San Francisco offers Italian language classes for kids starting at age four. The school tries to encourage instruction for the entire family by offering discounted pricing for additional members of the same household. The 13-week sessions are only offered on Saturday mornings during the scholastic year. You're the best judge of how well your child will do in remaining interested for the 2-1/2 hour classes that include one 15 minute break. Pre-Schoolers, ages 4 to 6, learn pronunciation and meaning of simple words and phrases through games, drawing, listening, and pronunciation practice. Children ages 7 to 12 learn to read, listen and comprehend, write, and speak basic sentences through group activities that focus on their interests, hobbies, and heroes. They also research Italian geography and history and discuss their impressions of Italian culture and life. Children 13 years and older participate in adult language classes offered on five different levels from Beginner through Advanced.
