The entrance to the
Seattle Asian Art Museum's Art Deco building is flanked by replicas of a pair of 15th-century Ming Dynasty camels, intended to be clambered on by any willing children. Riding the camels is a good way to begin or end a visit to this lovely, quiet museum, located in
Volunteer Park. Exhibits here are oriented towards grade schoolers and older; we visited with an exuberant toddler who wanted to get her hands on everything, and it simply wasn't very much fun.
Admission to the museum is free on the first Thursday and the first Saturday of the month. On
Free First Saturdays, families drop by the museum to create art projects with Asian artists.
Summer Art FUNdamentals: Kids spend the summer at Volunteer Park and the museum, exploring a different theme each week.
