City kids learn about urban organic gardening at
Seattle Tilth, a lush, untidy, exhilarating pocket of Eden tucked in between the Good Shepherd Center and the newly renovated
Meridian Playground.
This is a perfect place for children who like to wander around, look for bugs, sniff the air, and watch things grow. Like
Bradner Gardens Park, another demonstration garden
Tilth helps maintain in South Seattle, this laid-back place combines whimsical garden art with a children's garden and
lots of opportunities to learn about living things.
During the summer,
Seattle Tilth offers fun half-day programs for preschoolers, "peawee" classes for toddlers, and day camps for school-aged children. The focus is on gardening practices, cooking, garden art, and bugs.
In the fall, the gardening community and friends show up for the annual
Organic Harvest Fair (September), a kid-friendly celebration of the season's bounty.
