Settlement Music School, founded in 1908, is the largest community-based school of the arts in the US, according to the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
Settlement helps people of all ability, age, race, and financial means help achieve their greatest potential through music and dance programs. The school has six branches in Germantown, Jenkintown, and South, West, and Northeast Philadelphia, PA, as well as Camden, NJ.
A core music program is offered at all six branches. Students ages four and up can participate in Suzuki Group Classes, Children's Music Workshop, Fundamentals of Music, Dance, and an Ensemble Program.
Individual lessons are offered at all levels in piano, organ, string, brass, woodwind, guitar, and percussion instruments, as well as in theory and composition. Voice instruction is offered for students whose voices have changed, generally, ages 16 and older.
Settlement Music School also offers summer camps - String Camp, Arts Camp, Guitar Camp, Music Theatre Camp, Summer Jam (a program for teen instrumentalists) - June through August for children ages four to 18. Details and registration are available by calling 215.320.2600.
