Shelter Island is actually a peninsula, thus not really an island at all. It provides lovely views of the San Diego Bay and Downtown and is a favorite picnic spot for many locals.
Two great playgrounds and wide sidewalks make this an ideal spot to take toddlers for a day out on the town.
Humphreys concert series brings many of the hottest performers to San Diego every summer. Other restaurants and hotels here provide a variety of delicacies and accommodations.
tips:
Pack a picnic and take the kids on most any summer evening and be serenaded by major-label, famous performers. Find a spot across the street from Humphreys and hear the concert free of charge.
getting there:
From I-8 exit Rosecrans. Go west on Rosecrans. Pass Midway, Chatsworth, and Nimitz. Turn left on Shelter Island Drive. Follow road as it turn right and into Shelter Island.
