about Shipwreck Camp:

Case Western Reserve University Center for Science and Mathematics Education presents a two-week day camp experience for kids who are willing to dive into a very cool (and wet) learning experience. Shipwreck Camp participants must be able to get into and out of small or large boats and, at the minimum, not be afraid of water, insects, or the outdoors. Swimming skills are highly advantageous, as are computer skills. During the camp, kids use GPS and other navigational tools on land and in the water, discover how weather contributes to shipwrecks in the Great Lakes, learn about the history of the Great Lakes region with a nautical archaeologist, build a boat and create the conditions for a shipwreck, gain an introduction to snorkeling and search and rescue techniques with the Cleveland Lakefront State Park Rescue Dive Team, and develop and follow a plan to find a wreck. The camp is limited to 25 campers, and applications are available by request. An orientation for all participants and their families is typically held a week prior to the program's inception.
