The
Silver River Museum and Environmental Education Center, a joint project of the Marion County Public School System and the Florida Park Service, features historical and educational displays for all ages. Located in the
Silver River State Park, the complex consists of a museum, classroom buildings, a lunch pavilion, research library, a late 1800s pioneer "Cracker" settlement, and a circa 1930s one-room schoolhouse once used by African-American students during segregation. During the shool year, the center is used by the school as a satellite campus, and only open to the public on weekends. In June and July, the center is open Tuesday through Sunday.
