about Silver Springs Park:

A Stow city park, Silver Springs offers activities a-plenty, starting with hiking and biking on two distinct trails: the flat, crushed limestone surface of Summit County's bike/hike trail, and a short-but-challenging off-road dirt trail on the northeast side of the park. Fishing is allowed on a small pond near the park's Young Road entrance, and the park is often filled with the sound of swinging bats (there are three ballfields) and squealing kids, as the City of Stow holds summer day camps here for all ages and interests. (See the city's parks and recreation website for details.) Amid the ball fields on the west side of the park, there are restrooms, water fountains, and pop and other vending machines. On the west side of the park - just a short stroll from the ballfields, and within sight of the game - is a playground with equipment for toddlers and for older children. History buffs can enjoy a tour of the park's historic barn and museum; time your visit right and you can also catch a theater performance or kite-flying event. A public campground for RVs and tents is open from April-October. For those new to camping, the city of Stow offers a "rent-a-camp" program - a park staffer actually pitches the tent for you, and supplies campfire wood for your campfire! Call 330.689.2759 or click http://www.stow.oh.us/Parks%20&%20Rec/PARDcampgrds.htm for details. Other Activities: In addition to the barn and museum, the Stow City Players theatre is also housed in this park, and produces several shows each year (Check website for theater announcements and for other programs and demonstrations held throughout the year.) Visitors can find the historic barn and museum off Young Road, near the park's east entrance. The Summit County hike/bike trail runs through the southern end of the park, parallel to Call Road. To access the trail or off-road bike path, use the Young Road entrance and park behind the softball fields. Note that no pets are allowed on the east side of this park, but a fenced dog run and swimming area is available on west side of the park. (Access to the dog park is from Stow Road.)

tips:

The two-mile off-road bike trail is a good place for fledgling mountain bikers to test their mettle and their wheels. Two steep (but short) climbs and lots of roots/rocks along the path offer a taste of mountain biking. Always wear a helmet.

getting there:

From Cleveland, take State Route 8 south to Steels Corner Road. Exit heading east, turn left (north) onto Hudson Drive. Follow Hudson Drive to Norton Road; turn right. Follow Norton about 3 miles east, crossing State Route 91 and turn right onto Stow Road (to reach the swim lake) or continue on 91 to Young Road, turn right to reach park road leading to the theatre/barn and off-road bike trail.
