about Smothers Theatre at Pepperdine University:

Smothers Theatre, completed in 1980 and named for a Kansas City-based friend of Pepperdine's, Frances Smothers, is host to a number of child-friendly events each season. With its raked seating and superior sight-lines, it is considered to be one of the finest theaters of its size in Los Angeles.

The auditorium has one floor, American-style seating, 450 capacity in 15 rows, with the option of adding additional seating for 50 in the orchestra pit when lowered to auditorium level. The theater is accessible to the handicapped.

Parking is easy but snacking is not. Bring a nibble for intermission.

getting there:

From points east of Los Angeles: Head west on Interstate 10 (I-10 is called the San Bernardino Freeway east of Downtown Los Angeles, and the Santa Monica Freeway west of downtown). Follow I-10 until it merges with Pacific Coast Hwy (PCH/California Highway 1). Go north on PCH for approximately 14 miles to Malibu. Turn right on Malibu Canyon Road at traffic signal. Turn left on Seaver Drive (the next traffic signal). From Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley: Go west on the Foothill Freeway (I-210) to Pasadena to Highway 134, go west to Glendale and Burbank. At the 101 Freeway intersection, go west toward Ventura. Proceed on the 101 Freeway for several miles. Exit at Malibu Canyon/Las Virgenes Road. At the end of the ramp turn left and proceed for 9 miles through Malibu Canyon. Turn right at Seaver Drive (traffic signal). A parking pass will be issued at the information booth.
