South Platte Park is a 672-acre natural area encompassing the South Platte River and its flood plain downstream from
Chatfield Dam. Ecosystems along the flood plain include the only unchannelized section of the South Platte Park in the Denver region, riparian woodlands, grasslands, and wetlands. The river, as well as several lakes and ponds, attracts a variety of wildlife.
The
Carson Nature Center offers
hands-on displays regarding the history of the South Platte River and the area's plants and animals. Educational programs are offered to children and adults throughout the year.
