My grandkids have been going there all year I think it's a great place

We're trying to find a day camp for our daughter. We live near this "Y", but the reviews are bad. With this, if you know of a place where we could look please email me. rstallworth@spmswiss.com

Well my Baby been goin to the YMCA for the past 3 years and NOT one time they talk bad to my child the staff there now is Doing a great job...Keep the good work up Team

My daughter, a college student, is a new hire this year as a day camp counselor. I asked her were there a lot of returning counselors from last year, She said No. I also know that they sent her group through several days of training before the children started coming this past Monday. She was very excited about the job, and loves the children. She wants to add early childhood development to her curriculum when she returns to college in the fall. So all that to say, maybe they had some issues last year, but take a look at it for yourself before deciding to send your children there.

The south side YMCA is directly across the street from Jackson Park. Last summer (2006), I took my son to Jackson Park almost every day. On one occasion, I personally witnessed one of the "Y" workers cursing at one of the male children who didn't want to line up to prepare to return across the street to the "Y." The worker looked like a teenager herself. My thoughts were, "I am so glad that my child does not attend that program, because I don't talk that way to my child--and I don't want anyone else talking to him that way." This is not a good place for your child to go. Find something else, or someone else--a friend, a relative, who can watch your child for you. Phyllis

I was just looking a nice place for my Nephrew to attend but now I would never sign him up there after hearing these comments. Thanks for saving me time and my nephrew heart ache.

I have been contemplating joining that particular facility. Thanks to you I am able to see the consistency in the comments... Has anyone called the headquarters?

...with the staff and the wayward children that are brought there. the staff doesn't watch the children and one had the nerve to put their hands on one of my children, it's a mess there, they should get all new professional staff and make the children love to come there, my children hate coming there and we are in the process of placing them elsewhere. If I would have done better research my children would've never attended, but I started a new job, it's affordable and convenient.

If the users come back to this page that had negative comments about this YMCA,could you please tell me which day camp service you eventually used. I'm about to purchase a home in that area within 2 mos, and I'm starting to look for daycamps for an 11 and 13 year old. I'm having a hard time finding one on the Southside that is not very expensive. My budget is $700 total for both children, from the end of June to the 1st week of August. I only need camp from 3pm - 6pm. If anyone has any suggestions, please respond. Thanks. :-)

I reviewed the comments by other parents. I am a new parent trying out the child care programs for the first time. I have had two very pleasant experiences and two not so pleasant experiences with child care staff. As a new member I believe the late arrival policy may be a little abrassive! Many families have some non-traditional work schedules. I believe to be a little more consistent with other child care programs, in by 10am is much more feasible than after 9am you are late...if late a second time you are turned away!!! This for now is my only gripe.

...attitudes are very unprofessional. Sometimes they even use profanity at and around the children. Then, they're on the phone most of the time or talking to each other instead of interacting with the kid's. So yes, they can be very unprofessional.

...teach the children a lot beyond their years, but when the parents aren't there they talk to them as if they're stupid and sometimes they put their hands on them but not too bad. Then they don't really interact with them a lot. Trust me, I've seen it. So, I wouldn't recomend anyone send their child there.

We have been members for the past 5 years. My son attended the headstart program, which was very disappointing. We have taken swim lessons, YBA basketball for 2 years. The basketball is a great program. However, in other areas, there is allot of room for improvement. The attitudes of some of the employees is rude and aggressive. The new Manager is a great guy; however, at this time we have decided to cancel our membership and use the city park system instead. Good luck in your improvements.
