Most of the younger generation probably won't know this tower as the icon of the 1962 World's Fair, but as Dr. Evil's hideout in the Austin Powers movie with the naughty name. No matter - the
360-degree view of the city is prime.
Zip up 520 feet to the viewing deck in one of two glass-fronted elevators and take a look. The elevator operators' patter is touristy, but they've always been very nice to our parties of excited kids. Once at the top, the older ones goggle at the exalted perspective and fiddle with the
free telescopes while the younger ones race round and round the deck.
If running around isn't enough, engage the kids in one of the
Observation Deck games. Each of the six games asks a question and gives clues for how to find the answer. Kids can learn facts and trivia about Seattle and its environs, then annoy you with their new-found knowledge for the rest of the day.
SpaceBase: This is the place to buy t-shirts, books, and cute little
Space Needle doodads.
SkyCity: The rotating restaurant is a fun - but pricey - adventure. Menus and prices are available at the
