Spotlight Live is an interactive dining and live performance venue where people of all ages can walk in for dinner and walk out a star. It's karaoke on steroids - with a burger on the side. A kids' menu is available with an $8-$10 price range.
The restaurant is beautifully designed, with comfortable seating and an interactive touch screen at each table - diners can send messages and photos (the screens include a rudimentary camera) to other tables in the restaurant. The food is reasonably priced and plentiful (though the Iron Chef mini burgers were a disappointment, tasting more like meatloaf than burgers). Don't leave without trying the imaginative desserts; the strawberry-flavored cotton candy is a terrific, playful, end to a great dining experience, and that big poofy pile of pink on a plate is fun to share.
During the course of the meal kids (and adults) can work with professional entertainers to create their own recorded music, leaving the session with their own customized t-shirt, CD, or DVD recording of their performance on stage or in one of the venue's five private recording booths (which look like Star Trek pods, and are incredibly simple to operate). The DVD fee is $29 (recording in the private booth is included in the fee; making a reservation and performing live is estimated between $25-30 additional). The fee for a CD from a private recording session is $19.
Note that stage time is also visible to passers by on Broadway, and over the internet - so grandma and grandpa can "tune in" to see the kids put on a show.
The fourth floor is strictly dedicated to private functions (ie bar/bat-mitzvahs, birthdays, etc). It has its own private performance stage, outdoor patio seating on the rooftop (with views of Times Square), a private bar dedicated solely to the reserved function, and all the amenities of main venue.
