Springbrook Nature Center, located on 127 acres of parkland in the midst of a rapidly developing suburban area, includes an interpretive center, three miles of hiking trails (about 1/3-mile of those are paved and handicapped-accessible), a boardwalk over wetlands, wildlife overlooks, a picnic shelter, and an amphitheater.
The center hosts family-friendly events and educational activities throughout the year, including monthly environmental programs, weekly summer storytimes, a Playful Polliwogs program for parents and preschoolers, a Pumpkin Night in October, and a Spring Fling featuring a petting zoo and egg hunt. Kids and adults can volunteer to assist with events.
Parties: Kids ages three to 11 can celebrate with themed naturalist-led activities and time in a private room. Refreshments may be brought in. The parties are offered at noon on Saturdays and 1pm on Sundays, with an evening option available April through October.
Summer camps: Springbrook's camps (for ages four to 12) combine nature, science, and live animals, giving kids a chance to learn about the outdoors in a fun, safe environment. Cost: $65-$165.
