about St. George Library Center:

The largest library on Staten Island, the St. George Branch of the New York Public Library features an impressive beamed ceiling of massive timbers, stained glass windows (which reveal a spectacular view of New York harbor through the clear lower panes), air conditioning, and wheelchair accessibility.

tips:

Every child should have his or her own Library Card. The powerful feeling of recognition as a being in his or her own right goes a long way toward developing a love of libraries and reading. Children from birth to age 11 can have their own cards; applications must be signed and completed by a parent or guardian. Teenagers in 7th grade and up (or 12 and older) must present identification that indicates their grade level or age: a program card, report card, birth certificate, or letter from a teacher on school stationary. Visit www.nypl.org for more information.

getting there:

From the Ferry, walk west to Hyatt Street (near Borough Hall). On Hyatt Street, walk one block to Central Avenue.
