The St. Louis Language Immersion Schools Inc. opened in 2009, offering French and Spanish language immersion as elementary charter schools in the City of St. Louis. It is the first school in a planned network of many schools.

Language immersion programs teach students all subjects in a language other than the dominant language spoken in the community. In every SLLIS elementary school, 100% of instruction is conducted in the immersion language. During the 2010 school year, Kindergarten and first grade are offered; eventually the school will provide instruction up to fifth grade.
