Care for children ages 18 months to five years is offered at
St. Mary's Nursery School, including part-time and full-time options. The facility, winner of our
2009 Parents' Picks Award for
Best Preschool in Philadelphia, has been in operation for more than 35 years.
St. Mary's program is multi-aged, open-classroom style, where a team of teachers work together. The focus is on development of social and verbal skills and learning through play. Special needs children are welcome.
Indoor play space includes a large downstairs area for use on rainy/cold days, where plenty of open space gives kids a chance to let loose on scooters, play ball, and run around. The large motor room, upstairs, has a jungle gym, a small slide, and a climber.
The school typically uses the
outdoor, fully enclosed playspace three to four times a day; a sandbox, slides, tire swing, and large climber (not to mention plenty of ball play and tricycle riding) are part of the program.
The staff to child ratio at
St. Mary's is approximately one to five, often less. The school is
licensed by the PA Department of Public Welfare.
