A 30-acre woodsy campus, not far from the Pacific Ocean, St. Matthew's Parish School and Episcopal Day School serves children and families of the Parish of St. Matthew and the community at large. Founded in 1949, the school provides a challenging and traditional academic program, balanced by a nurturing environment and responsiveness to individual differences.

Classrooms for preschool students are in the heart of the campus' rustic setting. In Kindergarten, children move up the hill, where they are taught by two fully credentialed teachers. Specialty teachers work with the children several times a week in art, music, physical education, library, and science education.

The first through fourth grade classrooms are also self-contained. Teachers in science, religion, music, art, physical education, computer science, and community service support the efforts of the classroom teachers. Homeroom teachers coordinate the program at each grade level with an emphasis on reading, writing, and mathematics.

The core academic program continues through middle school. Students begin foreign language in 6th grade with semester introductory classes in Spanish and Latin. One language is pursued in 7th and 8th grade. All middle school students participate in the intramural program, and 7th and 8th graders may join interscholastic competitive teams in a variety of sports.
