Stage Door Conservatory offers training and performance opportunities in musical theater to children in the 3rd through 12th grades.
The group sponsors three summer camps, including
Kids on Stage, On Broadway, and Teens on Stage, as well as a counselor-in-training program.
Kids on Stage is for 3rd-5th graders, On Broadway is for 5th through 9th graders and Teens on Stage is for 8th through 12th graders. Each program culminates in the presentation of a fully staged musical. In the weeks preceding each show, participants receive instruction in acting, singing, and dancing, character development, stage craft, and theater production, as well as gain invaluable experience in collaborating with others as members of an ensemble.
The camp is held in North Berkeley on Hopkins Street and at the
Julia Morgan Center for the Arts.
Stage Door Stage Door presents two musicals each summer. It
also presents five shorter plays on alternating Friday nights at the Epworth Community Methodist Church, where younger participants perform. Stage Door also offers a popular Counselor-in-Training/Apprentice program called Backstage for high school students wishing to gain more experience in theater production, stage direction, choreography, musical direction, or in child education.
