The
State Theatre is located in the Hennepin Theatre District, along with the
Orpheum and
Pantages theatres. The
State's box office services all three.
The
State has a colorful history, from its opening as a technological marvel in 1921, through periods as a
movie house, concert hall, and church. It reopened in 1991 after extensive renovations, and now hosts touring Broadway productions, concerts, films, and other peformances. The theatre seats 1,300 on the main floor, and 850 in the balcony.
Tours offering a backstage glimpse of the Hennepin Avenue theatres are offered at 1pm on the last Monday of each month. Tickets cost $5/person, and can be purchased at the State Theatre box office.
Theatre-loving kids ages 16 and up can
apply for usher positions.
