This place is very charming and a nice place to take your kids to learn a little history as well as do some gardening and experience taking care of animals. The house is very well kept although the outside grounds need some work. Also the animals don't look very happy as their living conditions aren't the greatest. But that is why people should come out and volunteer. There is only a very small number of volunteers to take care of this place, but with more this farm could become something great. My family and I are going to visit this farm once a month to help out with general chores and upkeep with our focus being mainly on the animals. They have pigs, chickens, a goose, turtles and salamanders. I encourage everyone, especially families with young children, to come on out and help around the farm. It is a great way to spend a sunny San Diego afternoon.

...favorite places to hang out on a Saturday. It is a small farm, but ever so charming. The staff is very knowledgeable and very welcoming. There is always work to be done and during certain times of the year, harvests to be made. The farm has LOTS of vegetables, herbs and fruit trees, as well as pigs, roosters, rabbits and ducks. This is also a wonderful place for school trips. A truly magical experience.

There were only a few animals: one pig, four ducks, and 4 rabbits. A few vegetable plants, apricots, and strawberries. So, its just like your backyard. If you have a backyard, then it would be exactly like the ones you have here. However, Nancy, the lady staff is great in explaining the stuff around there. The old stein family house has an old cast iron made kitchen, cast iron made room heaters, and an old fire place. There were some farm equipments but not well maintained. With two volunteer staff, a farm cannot be maintained well enough to have a weekly family trip. The old water pump (small lift pump) is working and you can draw some sample water. However, if you are grown up in an apartment without seeing land or worms, then you could go out there and plant some vegetables to help out the volunteers who are still trying to maintain the tiny backyard farm.

The staff is excellent! The animals are friendly and the produce is delicious!!!!!! My 2&5 yr. olds loved running around the huge yard, exploring the old house, and pumping water. They got to feed the animals and pick fruit. We go back often!

Even though this is a museum, the kids were allowed to pick lemons, feed apples to the pigs and search for earthworms. Great experience for kids of all ages. Friendly staff!!
