Drive your kids up the wall for a change! A converted warehouse in a semi-industrial area of Ballard now houses Stone Gardens, an indoor climbing gym that offers climbing, bouldering, textured walls, natural features, and a wide selection of routes.
Beginners can come for the Kids Climb, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 5pm-6:30pm. The staff to child ratio is 1:5, and kids at all levels of experience are welcome. The fee for nonmembers is $20 ($15 for members). Wear comfy clothes, and register at least 24 hours in advance. More advanced climbers wanting to improve their skills can join the Junior Climbing Program.
Birthday parties held at the gym are two hours long, and include climbing time and use of the loft for treats and gifts, a 1:5 instructor to student ratio, and all necessary equipment. The rate for up to nine climbers is $25/climber.
Summer camps are offered during July and August, with sessions for beginners and intermediate/advanced climbers.

getting there:
I-5 north: Exit at N 45th Street/N 50th Street (#169). Follow N 45th Street ramp and turn left. Follow arterial west until it turns into N 46th, then NW Market Street. Continue through downtown Ballard. Cross 24th Avenue NW. Drive two long blocks. Located on the left (south) side of the street, across from Taco Time, 100 yards east of the Ballard Locks. I-5 southbound: Exit at NW 80th Street/NW 85th Street (#172). Follow NW 85th Street westbound to 24th Avenue NW. At 24th, turn left. Drive to NW Market Street, and turn right. Follow directions above. Public transportation: Served by Metro routes 17, 44, and 46.
