Built in 1929, Suburban World Theatre features much of its original facade, as well as indoor murals designed to make audiences feel as though they're in a Spanish courtyard. No one's likely to be fooled, but it's a nice environment to enjoy the movies, special events and concerts, and private parties that are now held here. Tables are set up on tiered levels, assuring everyone a good view.

getting there:
In the heart of Uptown. Street parking can be hard to come by, though it's free on Sundays. There's a ramp behind Calhoun Square and a lot on Lagoon Avenue. The area's also well-served by Metro Transit.
