The 132-acre Sugar Sand Park in Boca Raton is one of the counties top recreation facilities and is a very popular spot for birthday parties.
The park's celebrated tri-level Science Playground lets kids climb, run and play in a creative atmosphere featuring a water play area and hands-on activities inspired by scientific principles. Be forewarned: The playground closes at the first sign of inclement weather.
The gymnasium is located at the west end of the park between the Inline Roller Hockey rink and the Community Center. It not only hosts several sports, tournaments and special events throughout the year, but it also offers regular classes and activities for people of all ages to enjoy. It is also open to the public several times a week. Call 561.347.3950 for details.
The Children's Science Explorium provides a hands-on exploration of science. The exhibits challenge school age children and enhance their understanding of how physical science impacts everyday living. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
There are two nature trails. The Sand Pine Nature Trail, located near the Science Playground, leads through parts of the endangered Florida Scrub. The Slash Pine Nature Trail, located behind the Community Center, winds through a piece of Florida's Scrubby Pine Flatwoods.
The 155-seat Willow Theater is located within the community center and offers many different live entertainment programs, including concerts, plays, puppet shows, musicals, dance, and story telling. Consult the schedule for details.
