The Montessori classroom is designed to create an environment that is calm, ordered, and realistic for the child. The materials and furniture are all sized for the children's learning and exploration. The teacher acts as a facilitator of activities within this environment, as well as a role model of respectful behavior. Children follow what interests them, and the teacher responds with developmentally appropriate and individualized lessons.
Each classroom contains a core curriculum exploring language, mathematics, practical life, geometry, geography, botany, art, music, history, and sensory experiences.
Sunnybrook offers a small Extended Day program with quiet games and activities in the morning. After school, students may participate in arts and crafts, drama, music, and large group games as well as free play. Extended Day students are also admitted for a week of childcare during the week of Spring Break.
Sunnybrook offers summer sessions aimed at enriching and expanding the student's experience of summer. Families are provided the opportunity to be selective about which sessions to enroll in and classes are taught by returning Sunnybrook staff.
