When Ballard's China Star Buffet closed down a while back, we thought we'd never find another Chinese restaurant that would satisfy our family's wildly divergent tastes. It turned out that the closure of our old favorite turned out to be a blessing, as it led us a little further north to the Super China Buffet.
The popular restaurant serves an extensive variety of typical Chinese restaurant fare, along with a salad and fruit bar, plus a few fast food favorites, including chicken nuggets, fries, tater tots, and pizza.
Offerings also include a limited selection of Dim Sum, a small sushi bar, and a Mongolian grill. Dessert selections include vanilla and chocolate soft serve ice cream with a variety of toppings, and an assortment of bland cakes and cookies.
The dinner selections include some seafood items that aren't available at lunch, including crab legs, oysters, and craw fish. The shellfish offerings increase even further on weekends, when both lunch and dinner include clams, squid, and mussels.
Despite the seemingly endless list of items, we wish they could increase the vegetable offerings, which are generally limited to broccoli, string beans, corn, eggplant, and the iceberg lettuce at the salad bar.
The food is always fresh and hot. The restaurant is generally busy, so most of the food never has the chance to sit out for too long. The most frequent exception we've found has been at the sushi bar, where the nori sometimes seems soggy.
Children are always welcome here - the servers are warm and kind when greeting us, and the tables always have plenty of napkins for the seemingly inevitable mishaps involving our weak chopstick skills.
Weekend dinner times tend to be very busy, and the wait for a table can be upwards of thirty minutes.
