The Sweet Candy Company was started in 1892 by Leon Sweet. Today, the Salt Lake City factory puts out over 250 different candy items, but the most popular items are the old classics - chocolate orange sticks, salt water taffy, and cinnamon bears.

The Sweet Candy Company offers free factory tours year round. Tour groups watch a video presentation about the company and then go out on the factory floor to see firsthand how the candy is made. Candy samples are pulled right off the machines for everyone to try. Tours end in the company's outlet store where people can buy candy fresh from the factory.

Tours are by appointment only, Monday through Thursday, 9am-3:40pm. Reservation forms are available on the website. Tours last about 40 minutes. There is no minimum number of people required, but groups larger than 15 people are split up into smaller groups.

Wear comfortable shoes and expect to walk about 1/2 mile on the factory floor. Since the groups are right in the candy making area, hairnets are provided, and no jewelry is allowed. The company has strollers and wheelchairs available for folks who need them; please don't bring your own into the factory. The public restrooms in the building have changing tables.

The factory tour is a great thing to do with birthday party groups.

The candy store at Sweet Candy Company is open during business hours (Mon-Thu 8am-5pm, Fri 8am-12n). Visitors can purchase factory fresh candy as well as "Sweet Deals" (factory overruns and bargains). Keep this in mind around the holidays to save a little on candy purchases.
