About Sylvan Rodriguez Park
Created with an astronomical theme, Sylvan Rodriguez Park is a great place to play and view the sky. Of the two playground structures, one is specifically designed for the little ones, ages two to five.
The wide-open space is perfect for watching fighter jets from nearby Ellington Field take off and maneuver across the sky, flying kites on windy days, and viewing the stars on clear nights. The park also features a walking trail system covering over two miles through thick wooded area where sightings of wildlife are common.
A crescent-shaped basin, like a small lake, provides a relaxing oasis around which to stroll or ride bikes, and set into the ground is a brick labyrinth surrounded by stone pillars aligned for the equinox - ideal for a meditative walk.
The Park has lacrosse fields and large grass fields for playing ball, throwing a Frisbee, or letting your dog run around. Amenities include restrooms (no changing tables), plenty of benches, and drinking fountains - even a ground-level drinking fountain for dogs!
An acoustically-tempting, domed pavilion provides shade, a couple of wheelchair-accessible picnic tables, and an opportunity for kids to delight in shouting to create echoes.

- NO No NO lights!!!!!!! There are too many lights in our area now. For an area devoted to space and the brilliant sky there is nowhere to see it at night. This park was designed with an ancient astronomical theme let it be what is was born for.

[Submitted by gaia10/25/09 - this is the best park ever. you can go walking and enjoy the breeze, sit ever so often and it is not crowded. my grandkids enjoy it very much when they visit. it is nice and so open and to top it off, there is no traffic. this is a place where I can let my dogs loose and not worry about them getting lost.

[Submitted by Anonymous7/05/09 - I've been to this park over 100 times. It is a great, relaxing spot of land that is just close enough to the community (maybe1/8 mi?) without being noisy. There are fish and turtles in the basin, but I've seen many dogs swimming around. There are large amounts of land, which is great for any field sport. There is a small paved area with faux boulders and benches. Here's a secret: clap your hands while standing in the middle of this paved circle. The north field/sidewalk track can sometimes be unkept, but it isn't ordinary for the grass to be "waist-high"(unless you are vertically challenged). When its flooded, check out the north track. It becomes a shallow lake which is good for horsing around or skimboarding.

Overall, this park should be checked out by anyone living in the Clear Lake area.
