About Tempe Beach Park at Tempe Town Lake
The 25-acre Tempe Beach Park is part of the popular Tempe Town Lake recreational area and is a hot spot for annual signature events like the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl New Year's Eve Block Party, Cardboard Boat Regatta, Way Out West Oktoberfest, Fourth of July Celebration, and APS Fantasy of Lights.
The park connects to five miles of bicycling, jogging, and in-line skating paths circling Town Lake. It boasts a historic baseball field, an amphitheater, boat rentals, picnic areas, and concession stands selling hot dogs, sodas, shaved ice, and other treats.
The Cox Splash Playground offers kids an innovative way to cool off during the Valley's warmest months (mid Apr-Sep). The one-acre playground demonstrates the path of raindrops from the sky to the city water supply with misting metal "clouds," thunderclaps and lightning, waterfalls, streams, and more. Children can run through the "ocean" (approximately two inches of water), ride toy whales, and play on a sandy beach. Water is kept sanitary through a state-of-the-art filtering system. The best part of all - it's free!

Tips
While a Splash Playground attendant is present during normal operating hours, parental supervision is always a must when children play around water.

- Hopefully they changed the slides from concrete to plastic. My son lost his two front teeth going down it and the lifeguards told me it happened to several other kids that same year.

[Submitted by Virginia10/14/09 - I believe you can find parking behind the park if you follow Rio Solado. BEWARE the "lifeguards" are just college kids there for a tan. They do not enforce the rules especially no running. The last time we went 2 teens rammed my 13 month old and knocked her down and the "lifeguards" were just as DIS-interested as the boys parents. I would only recommend this park if your kids are old enough to protect themselves...even if your standing right there with them. There ALWAYS seems to be a lack of parental involvement. Also there are a lot of daycamps/YMCA type feild trips here and there is NEVER enough staff to ensure the safety of anyone. I would opt out for a better option if you can find one.

They posted signs regarding opening weekend last year... and we went several days later and it still wasn't open. Disappointed kids, cranky moms... and a completely disinterested parks person on the phone.
