Each fall, Houstonians can escape to the 16th century at the Texas Renaissance Festival, where costumed knights, knaves, and maidens mix with musicians and royalty.

Entertainment includes juggling, sword fighting, acrobatics, dancing, full-contact jousting, games, and rides. More than 300 "shoppes" feature arts and crafts, while demonstrations include glass blowing, armor crafting, book making, and more.

Visitors can find turkey legs, steak-on-a-stick, and grilled chicken, as well as foods from around the world, at the dozens of food shoppes.

Limited numbers and dates of advance discounted tickets are available on-line and at select retail locations. See the website for a current listing of retail outlets. Tickets can also be purchased by phone or by mail. Parking is free.

Yeah see... Ignorance is not always Bliss.

Shows that arent Kid friendly, announce it. Shows that have PG13 or PG17 are marked or stated. If you take your kids to Sherwood Forrest or "The Kids section" and to the jousting arena, then you have Nothing to fear for your children.

As for Chainmail bikini's... Do you not take your kids to the beach? Do you go to a public pool?

The majority of the shops are fine. If you pay attention to the 'themed' weekends, then you might be aware of which weekend you'd prefer to keep the kids at home. Thanksgiving weekend and openning weekend are the best. There is an actual "Kids day" where the parents/kids can come and there is nothing except child fun and entertainments.

I'd likely suggest keeping the kids away on Roman Invasion (Bacchus day), Barbarian day, and the Chainmail day where the "Swingers" from all walks of life come and be whom they are.

Other than these 3 days, It can be a blast and a hoot. Even some of the shows that give a warning are less dangerous than modern day TV and cartoons. Like Dead Bob. His show is hillarious. He has insinuations that most kids arent going to get. We get those on national Tv.

So Don't go saying that the WHOLE faire is horrible to take kids to. It's not. You should be picky about the themes you go to, and be a mindful parent to the shows and their ratings. Even ask the performers before they start. Make a parental choice.

But to say OMG they wear chainmail bikini's that's horrid!! Think about that seriously the next time you're at a pool, or beach and the Gstrings walking around... yeah... right

The theme is becoming more adult-oriented as some visitors wear extremely skimpy chainmail bikini-style outfits.

Some of the content during stage shows are definitely not appropriate for kids.

My family and I have been waiting for this for so long this to me is going to be awsome this is going to be the biggest ren fest i've ever gone to next to the bristol ren fest in Wisconcen

Do NOT take your kids to the Texas Renaissance Festival! I made the mistake of bringing my children to the Texas Renaissance Festival. Be forewarned: although most shows do warn parents
