The Academy of Performing Arts offers children's, youth, and adult classes in theater and film. Rowland Butler ("Mr. Dance") doles out instruction in tap, ballet, jazz, and ballroom for teens and adults, and tap and ballet for children. Private instruction can be arranged by request. Check the website for instructor information, class options, schedules, and fees. Youth classes occur during the afterschool hours.
During the summer months, the academy offers summer day camps where children ages six to 18 can work on acting, singing, theater, dance, voice, stage combat, and audition techniques. Visits from industry professionals help students understand what it takes to make money as a performance artist. Weekly or half-day spots are offered in the program. Call 801.486.2728 or email to reserve a spot. The program runs from early June through mid July.
