The Athenaeum was built as a bank in 1851 and is a registered Virginia Landmark and a National Historic Site. Today, the Greek Revival building, with its high covered ceilings and large windows looking out onto cobblestones and 18th-century houses, is owned and operated by the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association (NVFAA).
Programs offered through the NVFAA include art exhibitions and performances in the Gallery, pre-ballet classes for children ages three through seven through
The Washington School of Ballet, technology enrichment classes. The Athenaeum is also available to rent for special events and is a lovely venue for weddings, receptions, and meetings.
