The
Beach Chalet, located at the westernmost edge of
Golden Gate Park, is as close to eating on the beach as you can get in San Francisco without having to pick sand out of your food. Situated across from
Ocean Beach, the Chalet offers diners sweeping views of the dramatic windswept coastline.
Inside, the focus is on the past. The lobby is a mini-museum lined with beautiful WPA murals from the 1940s and old photos of the area. The Chalet is as much historic attraction as restaurant.
The menu is standard brew-pub fare: fried appetizers, burgers, salads, chicken, and fish dishes. Beer drinkers will like the wide selection of ales. The brewery is open for free tours from 12pm-4pm daily.
Despite the brew-pub character, lots of families dine here and the staff is very tolerant of kids. A kid's menu features hot dogs, mac'n'cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, salad, and fries.
Reservations are recommended on weekends.
The Park Chalet is located behind the Beach Chalet.
