Since opening in 1916, The Empress Theatre has been everything from a Burlesque showplace to a silent film theater. After its doors closed in 1930, it took more than 50 years to get the theater up and running again, and instead of Burlesque offerings, it now hosts family-friendly plays, musicals, concerts, and educational programs. Most performances are geared for ages five and up. Families with younger children might want to consider attending shows on Monday evenings, the theater's Family Night, when all seats are just $9 and toddlers are welcome.
A children's theater program is available. Participants perform a show for the public at the end of the session. Call or check the website for details.
The Oquirrh Hills Performing Arts Alliance played a large role in getting the Empress Theatre up and running again. The alliance is a non-profit organization devoted to cultivating the performing arts in Magna and surrounding areas.
