The F-line now rivals the cable car as the most picturesque way to get around town. The line is made up of post-WWII Italian-made trains that the city recently pulled out of retirement and buffed up beautifully. Step onto one of these babies and you might as well be stepping into a grown-up version of one of your child's toy trains. Its open-aired beauty makes even its workaday route - travel down Market Street - seem like a joy ride
. Take a streetcar from one end of Market street to the other and then north up the palm-tree studded Embarcadero, along the bay, and on to Fisherman's Wharf
. Once there, you can walk around and see the sights. Or you stay on board for the return trip, as we did.
