The F-Line050

in San Francisco, CA

about The F-Line:

The F-line now rivals the cable car as the most picturesque way to get around town. The line is made up of post-WWII Italian-made trains that the city recently pulled out of retirement and buffed up beautifully. Step onto one of these babies and you might as well be stepping into a grown-up version of one of your child's toy trains. Its open-aired beauty makes even its workaday route - travel down Market Street - seem like a joy ride. Take a streetcar from one end of Market street to the other and then north up the palm-tree studded Embarcadero, along the bay, and on to Fisherman's Wharf. Once there, you can walk around and see the sights. Or you stay on board for the return trip, as we did.

tips:

Best experienced on weekends when the crowds are thinner, the riders more relaxed. You need exact change when boarding from the street.

getting there:

The train originates at 17th and Market. You can pick it up at any Muni stop along Market Street.
