about The Gilliland Observatory:

Tucked away atop the garage roof of the Museum of Science is a wonderful resource for a universe of galaxy gazers. The Gilliland Observatory, equipped with two telescopes: a 7-inch refractor and a 12-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain, offers stargazers a magnificent look at the heavens above. The Observatory is open for free public viewing on Friday evenings (weather permitting; first-come, first-served). The Sky Tonight, shown in the Charles Hayden Planetarium at 7pm on Fridays, is a great introduction to an evening of sky-watching. The observatory hotline [617.589.0267] is updated at 5:30pm on Friday nights with information about that night's observing session.
