about The Giving Tree:

The fine-quality wooden toys at The Giving Tree are created and sold by volunteers, including the homeless, formerly homeless, and low-income and youth and adults from the community. The woodshop provides a supportive work environment for volunteers to learn job-related skills, expand talents, and give back to the community. All of The Giving Tree's toys are made from recycled wood, donated by local lumber yards and specialty woodshops. The paints and finishes are safe and non-toxic. The toys are of heirloom quality and are created to last a lifetime. Prices range from $5 to $85. Toys are sold directly to the public or for donation to local children’s service organizations. The woodshop and retail space [2008 Westlake] is open to visitors who want to watch the toys being made or who are interested in volunteering.

getting there:

From the south entrance to the Pike Place Market at Pike Street (look for Rachel, the bronze pig), walk past the fish stall, following the signs to the Soundview Cafe. The Giving Tree's booth is located on the right, on the downward ramp.
