Having survived the storms of 1900 and 1915, and Hurricanes Carla and Alicia - and now Ike in 2008 - The Grand has a very special place in the history of the community. One of the few remaining theaters of its era in Texas, it is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and was even proclaimed The Grand "The Official Opera House of Texas" by the Texas Legislature.
The inside of the theater lives up to its name - grand, indeed with thhree tiers of seating and old-fashioned opera boxes rising towards the high ceiling.
Restrooms are downstairs, with changing tables available. The Children's Series Performances are a great way to introduce kids to the theater.
