The Grosse Pointe Academy is a private school with an excellent reputation for academics. The school, for those in their early childhood through the eighth grade, focuses on communication and technology skills as well as art and athletics. Students are taught Christian principles and the value of community service. Admission: The school selects its students based on interviews with administration and faculty, school reports, transcripts, personal recommendations, and the results of entrance examinations. The Montessori Early School offers a three-day program for younger children, half-day programs for three and four year olds, and a full-day Kindergarten. Early and afterschool care is available. The Grosse Pointe Academy was founded in 1885 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart order of nuns. The all-girls' school was built on a ribbon farm that stretched from Ridge Road all the way to the lake.
