The Hermitage Foundation Museum and Gardens consists of an early 20th-century historic house museum with a world-wide art collection and contemporary exhibition galleries, surrounded by twelve acres of formal gardens and natural woodlands; a playground; educational wetlands; a Visual Arts School; and a Studio Artists Program.
The Hermitage Visual Arts School offers classes and workshops to children and adults. Adjacent to the museum on the Hermitage grounds, VAS houses two multi-media classrooms, a ceramics studio with wheels and kiln, and a darkroom photography lab.
VAS class sessions usually run six to nine weeks, three times a year, and are taught by artists active at the Hermitage and in the Tidewater area.
A summer camp program, for kids ages six to ten, features weekly arts themes.
