Located in the beautiful old Carnegie Library building (formerly the Central Public Library for the District of Columbia), The Historical Society of Washington, DC is devoted to making the history of the Washington metropolitan area and its people accessible and understandable to public audiences in order to achieve a sense of identity, place and pride in Washington for those who live and work here and for the nation as a whole.
The state-of-the-art Kiplinger Library makes available an extensive collection of historic materials including prints, rare publications, photographs, maps, manuscripts, and memorabilia. The Society also houses temporary exhibits and offers diverse programs for all ages, from workshops to films to lectures.
