about The John W. Gallivan Center:

The Gallivan Center is the heartbeat of downtown Salt Lake City. One major attraction here is the outdoor skating rink (the only one in Salt Lake City!). The 1000-seat amphitheater is a hotbed of musical activity through the spring, summer, and fall.

Many special events, such as exhibits, fairs, performances, parades, festivals, and holiday celebrations are hosted here. There are lots of places to settle down with a picnic, and the "people watching" is prime.

The skating rink opens mid-November and stays open until the warm weather melts the ice. Hours are Mon-Thu 12n-9pm; Fri-Sat 12n-11pm; and Sun 12n-7pm. Since the rink can be rented for private parties, call 801.535.6117 before heading down to skate to make sure it's open to the public. All children ages 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Rentals on hockey and figure skates are available. Private and group skating lessons are offered to people ages six and up. Call or check the Gallivan Center website for information and pricing.

Families can check out the waterfall on hot summer days. It is located southwest of the stage. Don't forget to bring a swimsuit and towel for the young ones, or at least a change of clothes - kids can't seem to resist the pull of the water.

Several areas around the Gallivan Center can be rented for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, and holiday parties. For information on Gallivan Center facility rental, call 801.535.6113.

During the summer months, bring a swimsuit or a change of clothes so the kids can play in the waterfall fountain.
