If Old MacDonald had kids, he'd take them to get shoes at
The Kids Barn, the
winner of our 2008
Parents' Picks quest to find the best
shoestore in Boston.
One of the largest independent children's shoe stores in New England, the "Shoe Barn," as it is sometimes called, is a spot that legions of parents have frequented for over 50 years.
Stocked with kids sneakers, shoes, and boots, it offers a huge selection. All major U.S. brands, and European makers like Elephanten, Dansko, and Premigi are represented here. You'll also find shoe accessories, like socks and tights.
Unlike some of the other larger shoe stores, the emphasis here is on
service. Knowlegable staff are on hand to measure and properly fit your child's shoes. Kids are encouraged to run around the store to make sure the fit is just right.
In the winter months, you'll also find a large selection of gloves and mittens, snowpants, winter coats, and thermal underwear. In the spring and summer, the Barn carries swim suits, swimming paraphernalia (goggles, etc), tennis togs, and seasonal sporting good items. Rollerblades, soccer balls, and baseball bats are big sellers.
Many parents swear by "The Barn." It isn't a fancy store, but when you're looking for good service and good prices, this place is hard to beat.
Adults looking for shoes can walk across the parking lot for the other Barn building. Here they carry adult shoes, sneakers, boots and seasonal outerwear.
