The King's English has been a local favorite in SLC since 1977. The children's section (head straight back from the entrance and turn left just before you go out the back door) is overflowing with best-selling, award-winning and classic children books for all ages. Also available are books-on-tape, games, and activity books. One of the major highlights of this store is the many local and national authors and illustrators who drop by for readings and/or signings.

The King's English was converted from an old house and bookshelves were added not only to the rooms, but also to the hallways and closets - every nook and cranny, really. But that's just so it can hold all the marvelous books that have been hand-selected by the owner of this independent bookstore. It can feel crowded, but there are chairs and tables scattered about, and the knowledgeable staff (hard to find in many chain stores) are ready to help you find just the right book. A patio in back allows space for special events when the weather permits.

Every week The King's English hosts storytimes for preschool to elementary-aged children; watch the calendar for details. Summer reading programs for older kids are also offered.
