The Menil Collection is a unique museum housing the collection of John and Dominique de Menil. The vast collection - comprised of almost 15,000 artworks and artifacts dating back thousands of years - includes paintings by Picasso, Magritte, and Warhol and places a special emphasis on Surrealism. The museum building is the centerpiece of a neighborhood featuring gallery spaces and cultural institutions, including the Menil's Cy Twombly Gallery.
The surroundings feature a park-like setting, with outdoor sculptures, benches, and magnificent, huge oak trees - plenty of greenspace for bottled-up kids to run around and burn off some energy.
Across the street is the Menil Bookstore, which has a nice selection of art books for kids, as well as games, puzzles, and toys. The bookstore is open during regular museum hours.
