The Miquon School is a progressive private school serving children from nursery through sixth grade. Its mission is to educate the whole child by fostering intellectual, creative, emotional, social, and physical development. The school employs a caring community of teachers, administration, and demands significant parental involvement.
Grouped into eight classes, students have the run of a ten acre, rustic campus for their education. There are sixteen teachers, two for each class, and six specialists offering music, art, physical education, science, library, and reading/writing.
In the forefront of mathematics education, 40 years ago, a discovery-based mathematics program for first through third grade called Miquon Math was developed at the Miquon School. In recent years, it has become very popular with homeschoolers.
The admissions process includes a visit, a recommendation from a child's current teacher, and a review of the child's cognitive, social, and emotional development, to determine compatability between the child and school.
Financial aid, an extended care program, and school vacation day care is available. Transportation through the local school district busing routes may be used, or, for an additional charge, children can be picked up and dropped off by Miquon's private buses.
Summer day camp is available to both current students and others. Children ages four to ten can participate in a program that includes arts and crafts, music, drama, athletics, swimming, nature exploration, and computer workshops.
There are also camp-wide theme weeks, weekly hot dog cookouts, field trips, hikes, and loads of free time to talk to friends and explore Crayfish Creek, which runs through the middle of the campus. Wooden bunks, scattered through the campus, are used on rainy days and as respite from summer's heat.
The camp day runs from 9am-3:15pm. After care is available until 6pm at an additional charge.
