The Music Class in Atlanta gets rave reviews for developmental music and movement classes.
Energetic, musically proficient instructors lead classes that include familiar kids songs, as well as interesting original tunes. Each session focuses on a set of 30ish songs and rhythm patterns, available to parents with class tuition in the forms of a CD and sheet music/activity book. By the way, The Music Class instructors play and/or sing on all the music collections, which makes it fun for kids to identify their teacher's voice or instrument when listening.
Out of class, parents are encouraged to play the music often to establish recognition and interaction with kids. In class, children are encouraged to express themselves along with the music in whatever way feels right. Want to sing? Great! Want to dance around the room instead? That's ok, too. Classes are carefully structured to allow for musical "work", instrument introduction, a little bit of musical knowledge (melody and harmony, and macrobeats and microbeats are some topics covered), instrumental playtime (with plenty of triangles, bells, and drums, freestyle dance (with scarves!), and a lullaby tune each time.
Always popular with kids is the last class of each session, during which the instructor conducts a top 10 countdown of songs students chose as their favorites.
The Music Class covers more than the original class format, too. Keyboard instruction classes are also available for five-seven-year-olds, and art classes are offered for children up to age six. 150 classes are taught all around metro-Atlanta. Registration fills quickly, and is accessible online or by phone.
