The Narragansett Bay Research Reserve is located in the heart of Narragansett Bay on four islands: Prudence, Patience, Hope, and Dyer. The reserve protects approximately 4400 acres of land and water.
On
Prudence Island, visitors can hike and bike on paved and dirt roads, swim. Prudence Island is home to a couple of great swimming spots including Sandy Beach on the island's west side, the small beach at the south end located inside the T-Wharf, and the south side of Sandy Point on the east side of the island.
There is a Lab and Learning Center which features an exhibit room highlighting local flora and fauna with a kids' area and an identification station. The island's only public restrooms are also located here. Seasonal art exhibits by local artists are on display and free to the public.
Getting to Prudence Island: While some get to the island by private boat, most people get to Prudence on the Prudence Island Ferry that leaves from Bristol daily (weather permitting). A round-trip fair is about $6.20 per person. Bikes can also be brought aboard for a nominal fee. Vehicles cost more and require a reservation, especially during the summer and holidays.
