The New Shul blends formal and informal Jewish education, ranging from a religious school for kids, to courses for adults, to programs for the whole community.
The littlest kids through second graders can gather before select Kabbalat Shabbat services to dance, drum, and sing with guitarist Josh Beraha during Club Shabbateeny. Rabbis lead a special blessing at the start of the program, which concludes with challah and juice.
Rishonim, The New Shul's innovative afterschool education program for kindergarten through fifth graders, includes Bible Study, Hebrew language, holiday celebrations, and prayers, values, and ethics.
B'nai Mitzvah Academy, for sixth through eighth graders, is individualized to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of each student preparing for their Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Classes meet every other Monday at 6:30 pm. Dinner is served at every session. Students also have the opportunity to participate in different social action projects throughout the year, while earning scholastic points for community service.
Rap with the Rabbis, for eighth through ninth graders who have had or are about to celebrate their Bar/Bat Mitzvah, offers students the chance to hang out with The New Shul's spiritual teachers and leaders to discuss different topics and challenge one other.
Membership to The New Shul, which is required for participation in most programs, is offered on a sliding scale.
