about The Reading Studio:

The Reading Studio offers one-on-one tutoring sessions with Reading Specialist Alayne Sayles, MS, formerly Director of the Gift of Literacy, a tutoring program for the JCC in Manhattan, and Reading Specialist for The Star Learning Center. She is state certified in reading, nursery, and elementary education.

Alayne authored the sing-along reading program, Alphie and the Alphabets, which is used during tutoring sessions. The Alphie sing-along method is a memory device that facilitates learning to read using original reading songs and music.

The recording/playback process accelerates learning to read. Phonics and whole language are introduced through song, story, and music. Kids enjoy reading and singing daily at home with tapes that they record during our tutoring sessions.

Studio sessions are designed to help children gain self confidence, to build a strong reading foundation, to develop reading fluency, and to acquire several reading strategies.

tips:

Kids need only come once a week and practice daily at home with tapes. Tutoring sessions are also available online, via Skype!

When my daughter started Kindergarten, she did not know all the letters of the alphabet. By November her teacher expressed a strong concern to me that my daughter was unable to remember letters and suspected a learning disability. I noticed that she was far behind the other children in her class. I called Alayne in December and she started seeing my daughter once a week. When my daughter was not picking up on a concept or didn't care for a method, Alayne was able to adjust her studies so that my daughter found it accessible and enjoyable. My daughter is now reading grade level books and her teacher assures me she has caught up with her peers. I cannot recommend Alayne enough and our family is delighted with our daughter's progress .

Our six-year-old son loves to be read to, but he had less interest in reading on his own. As parents we were concerned about pushing him too hard, but at the same time didn't want him to fall behind. We started lessons with Alayne this summer and we have seen a marked improvement in his reading and writing skills. She has molded the lessons to his individual needs, and our son has responded enthusiastically and is proudly reading on his own. We highly recommend The Reading Studio with Alayne.

We travel between the US and India and were looking for some activities in NYC for our 5 year old daughter. We found this gem of a program on GoCityKids. Three great things about this program - 1) Very well structured to take the child from the very basics to the advanced. Alayne has developed a very carefully thought out curriculum. 2) Alayne knows her stuff and is very good with kids. Our daughter can go for over an hour and a half without getting bored. We also appreciate her flexibility in accomodating our ever changing schedule. 3) It's very portable. When we are out in India (which is atleast 6 to 9months) or elsewhere in the world, we do the lessons through Skype. So far we've had no issues doing it through Skype. The combination of Skype and Alayne is quite amazing. All thanks to GoCityKids for getting us to know about The Reading Studio.

At the end of first grade, our 7 year-old son was a year behind his class in reading. He was unhappy in school. After 20 tutoring sessions with Alayne, he was reading on grade level. His self-worth soared as he began reading with ease and enthusiasm. He is now happy and confident in school. He loved meeting with Alayne because the time was filled with stories, music and singing that reinforced his reading skills. They made a cassette tape of him reading and singing that he would bring home after each session. He enjoyed practicing with his very own tape starring HIM! We are thrilled with our son's progress. I strongly recommend The Reading Studio.

My four year-old son, Alex studied with Alayne Sayles at the Reading Studio for the past nine months. When he started at the studio, he could recognize a few alphabet letters. He now delights in reading everything he sees and still amazes himself by saying: "I can read"! Alayne gave him the tools and helped him build self confidence. He had lessons at the studio once a week, practiced daily at home, and the results are stunning...He can read! Alayne Sayles is patient and understanding. She is very respectful of a child's temperament and attention span limitations. She has been simply wonderful. Her approach is child friendly...Alex used to think he was going to a singing class! Now he is happy to simply work on his reading, as he knows he can actually do it! Thanks Alayne for the great support! Nathalie
